Regular Activities

Our General Community Gatherings, or GCGs are where all our members gather as one body every fortnight to Praise and Worship our God in song and to speak God’s Word to the whole asembly, as the Holy Spirit leads and inspires. This is usually followed by a short talk by one of the leaders, the giving of personal testimonies of God’s love and care in our lives and often, the sharing of our personal challenges as well as blessings in smaller breakout groups. As we are a multi-generational Community, our young children and youth are also included as members in our meetings with separate activities provided for them.  Meetings typically end with fellowship over a good dinner!

Our usual meeting venue is at the YMCA-Stevens Road from 5:00 to 7:00 pm, however in view of COVID-19 restrictions, meetings are held virtually via Zoom for the time being.

Households– these are small groups consisting of between 10 to 14 members and comprise of single men and women and married couples. Households are also known as Men’s and Women’s Groups, or MWGs for short and are led by leaders who have pastoral oversight and care for each member in the Household. Household meetings serve as a smaller and more intimate forum for brothers and sisters to minister to each other in a more personal way which is otherwise difficult to do during GCGs.

Typical Household activities include Praise and Worship, Scripture Studies and the sharing of our lives together, so as to be a strong encouragement and support for each other and to build one other up in faith, hope and love amidst the many trials and challenges of life.

Annual Events

SOL has 4 major events in a year. These are:

Seder Celebration

A Christian adaptation of the Jewish Passover, held the night after Good Friday. Passover is the oldest and most important religious festival in Judaism, commemorating God’s deliverance of the Hebrews from slavery in Egypt and his creation of the Israelite people. The focal point of the Passover is a communal meal, called the Seder, which is a time of rejoicing and celebration at the deliverance of the Hebrews that God accomplished in the exodus. While Seder is celebrated as a formal ceremony, it usually ends with singing and dancing as we joyfully celebrate the resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ and our deliverance from death into ever-lasting life!

Community Retreat & Anniversary Celebration

This is the time in June each year when we are blessed with anointed teachers and pastors, often senior leaders from our various affiliated overseas communities, who will come over to refresh us with God’s Word and to encourage us to grow in our love and service for God and neighbor. The retreat is usually conducted over a weekend and ends with, as always, a festive dinner and celebrations to commemorate our Community Anniversary.

Family Day

As we are members of one family in Christ and further as SOL is an inter-generational Community, we make it a point to organize a day for everyone to get together as one big family, which includes everyone from grandparents to little toddlers, for fun, games, fellowship and what else- a good meal! Due to the COVID situation and Singapore’s Circuit Breaker last year, our Family Day was held virtually and  featured Care-pack deliveries to every family and the heart-warming prework – “What have you learned during the Circuit Breaker?” where each family member wrote an appreciation note to other members of their families.

Christmas Celebration

This is the highlight of SOL’s events for the year, as we get together as one body to give thanks to God in Praise and Worship for His many blessings in our lives throughout the year and especially to celebrate the birth our Lord, who took on our humanity and came to us as a helpless infant on Christmas night. Our young children, Youth Group and each Household contribute to the celebrations with heartwarming performances or (sometimes) hilarious skits. The Christmas celebration of course takes place in the midst of good food and a room bedecked with balloons, tinsel and Christmas lights!  With the COVID restrictions however, our Christmas celebration last year was converted into a virtual one with online games, quizzes, video presentations and with prizes and Christmas dinner delivered to each hosting family, making Christmas a joyful and unforgettable event notwithstanding the circumstances!
